Front Porch Sittin'

She waited patiently for the cupcakes to cool off!
She had a great time eating cupcakes, or should I say eating frosting?
Nothing like waiting until the last minute to make Valentines. Charlotte sponge painted hearts for her Valentine's for her friends at school today, and then her kind mommy cut each one out, put a border on it and let her tape a lollipop to the back! I thought they came out very cute!
This morning we gave Charlotte a little basket of Valentine goodies. Since she doesn't like chocolate she got a lot of Snoopy and stickers. She spent a good amount of time writing in her Snoopy notebook with her Snoopy pencil. She would actually scribble on the line, like she was writing and she informed us that it said "Happy Valentine's Day".
She of course wouldn't smile for the camera, and when I asked her to show me her pretty shirt she covered it up with her hands.
And then she shone her flashlight in my face... The best part of the morning was when she was walking to the car with her bag of Valentines. She dropped it on the grass and very casually under her breath said "Shit!", picked the bag up and proceeded to the car. I know that is horrible, but I laughed for about the next half hour.
She had a very fun day at school passing out and receiving Valentines. She didn't eat any of her fruit at lunch and told me her belly was full because she had a cupcake! It was definitely a sugar filled day, as soon as she got home she went right to work on her Valentine candy. Her teeth were brushed extra good tonight!
When she woke up she had a slight fever, about 100-101, but was in a fine mood and there was no way of telling her (and Joli) that we weren't going. So we headed to Toy Story on Ice. The girls had a blast. You could tell Charlotte wasn't quite herself, but her temperature was fine and she was enjoying herself.
Sunday morning Charlotte woke up with a fever still. It was only about 101, and we don't like to immediately treat a fever since it is the body's way of fighting infection... However it started to spike, then go back down. We still figured she was ok, put her down for a nap and she stayed calm. After her nap she wanted to watch a movie in our bed. No problem. She looked like heck... but was still interested in what was going on and her temp wasn't really over 102. I was putting away clothes in our room, picking up etc. I noticed her nose was crusty so I went to get a warm washcloth to wipe her face. When I walked back in to wipe her face I was surprised that she didn't protest the washcloth (which she usually does!) I then realized that she was staring at the T.V. quite intently... I then realized she wasn't moving, or responding to me. After yelling her name several times, and then turning off the TV (thinking she might have just been ignoring me) I realized there was something wrong. I called Chris in from outside and he picked her up but she still didn't respond. She was breathing with her eyes open but unconcisious. I quickly called 911 while Chris sat with her in her bed. It wasn't until the operator asked if it was the first seizure she had ever had that I realized she was ok and just suffered a febrile seizure. She started to move while I was on the phone, but still wouldn't talk.
The firefighters came and gave her oxygen which helped a lot. Her temp was still only 101-102. We took a ride in the ambulance where they gave her an ice pack to put on her head to cool her down. She started responding to questions in one word answers which was an improvement from her not speaking at all. When we got to the hospital she was doing a bit better. They took a chest x-ray even though her lungs sounded clear and ruled that she had pneumonia and had had a febrile seizure. We were shocked since she hadn't even been sick for 24 hours. It came on very strong and fast.
We were discharged and went to get her some medicine at the pharmacy where she proceeded to fall asleep in Chris' arms. Poor baby. Monday she was still feeling awful and the cough finally started. We had to keep giving her fever reducers and make sure she didn't spike a temp again.
We took a visit to the chiropractor where he was shocked as well. Her lymph nodes were huge and her atlas vertebrae was extremely out of alignment. We went back home where she still wanted no part in eating anything and was tired and grumpy. She did have some pasta for dinner. I went out to Target to grab some more Tylenol, but my trip was shortened with an SOS call from Chris to come home since she was throwing up. Needless to say we had a fun couple nights with not much sleep.
Tuesday she started to feel better but still not herself. She would start to feel better then throw a giant tantrum. It pretty much went like this the whole day.
This morning she woke up with only a slight elevation in temperature and was bouncing off the walls all day. She still wasn't totally herself so we stayed home once again. I think we were all going stir crazy! Needless to say, we are all ready for her to be back to normal (and go back to school and give Mommy and Daddy a little break from the demanding toddler before the baby comes!) It has sure been an eventful past 4 days that I hope we never have to go through again!
