Bird Feeder

Charlotte has been very grumpy lately so in an effort to curb the grumpiness I thought maybe if we did a special project together while Caroline was throwing books out of her crib napping it would give her a little pep. So since Caroline finished off a container of Almond Milk this morning we decided to recycle it and make a bird feeder. (Charlotte is big on keeping trash recyclables for projects...) This morning we painted the sides plain colors so it would be ready to decorate this afternoon. Once Caroline was in bed we headed outside to get some twigs for the roof. Charlotte didn't like the fact that they were "pokey" so I ended up carrying and collecting most of them.
She did find a good stick for the perch.
She insisted on making funny faces for the camera.
But I caught a little smiled in between silly ones.
We headed inside to start working. She tried Elmer's glue to attach the twigs but it wasn't working so I had to bring out the hot glue gun, which also meant that I did most of the work.

She did a good job decorating the sides and loved making patterns with the gems/stickers.
Finally we painted the front and added some glitter for the glamorous birds we have in the yard.

Then we headed outside to fill it up. I have no idea if we even have the right bird seed but we will see what happens. The bird feeder might not hold up for more than a couple days of rain anyway...
Charlotte was very excited to hang it up but got quickly upset when she spotted dog poop under the tree.
I think she did a great job!

Now we wait for the birds... (please come quickly, I am not sure how many more times I will have to be asked if the birds found the food!!)

Spring is here!

The weather is finally starting to get warmer, and Caroline is a full on running machine, which means the kids want to go outside every chance they get. Ok, well maybe not Charlotte who complains when it is too cold, but Caroline is always up for sneaking out the front door with Baylie, even if it is first thing in the morning and its still in the 20's! After we got Charlotte at school on Thursday we came home and played outside for a few minuted before heading in.
Charlotte has been wavering between loving Caroline to pieces, and kicking the soccer ball at her.

The play climber we have is very large, It took Charlotte until she was about 3 to figure out how to climb up it without a stool or help, and as daring as Caroline is it is just too tall. I have resorted to just sticking her on the slide which Charlotte loves.

And then Charlotte stuck her foot out and tripped Caroline, which landed her with a sit on the steps. Caroline of course ran right over to sit with her.
We played some more golf, Charlotte is pretty good even though she holds the club in the most awkward positions!
The girls were finally ready to go in after about 15 minutes outside. Here's to hoping the weather continues to warm up and we get more and more outside time!

Egg hunt!

When we got to Grandma and Grandpa's on Easter, Charlotte discovered the yard was filled with eggs that the Bunny had hid! She was so excited to start hunting! It was so much nicer than the big egg scrambles with a ton of other kids!!

I continue to be amazed each day by how much Caroline picks up just watching Charlotte. She watched Charlotte collect a few eggs, then knew just what to do!

Caroline was so cute. She was wearing my overalls from when I was her age!
Charlotte did a great job finding the smaller eggs that were hidden more than Caroline's!

After she started filling her basket with eggs, it started to get heavy and the eggs would fall out every time she bent down to get more. So, she took it upon herself to set her bag down, walk to the egg, pick it up and shake it, drop it in her basket, and then collect her basket and continue onto the next one!

Once we found all the eggs, (or so we thought, we found one the next day and who knows what Grandma will find when she is gardening!) I asked the girls to sit for a picture. Caroline was more concerned that she found a KitKat bar in her egg and needed it opened immediatlely!

We went inside and Charlotte went through her loot!

The Easter Bunny was pretty generous this year!
After taking a break, Charlotte wanted to color some more eggs. I think I have had enough hard boiled eggs for another year!

Easter Morning

Easter morning started a little earlier than I had hoped, with Charlotte waking up at 5:45. I don't think she even remembered it was Easter, she just was up. We didn't actually get up until Caroline woke up at about 6:45, and Charlotte was very excited to see that the Bunny had left their baskets filled with goodies.

Caroline was just interested in the stick of Peeps, which she picked out of her basket, and brought over to me to open. Nothing like a one year old with Peeps at 7am.

Charlotte also got purple Peeps, which she was sad to find out didn't come on a stick, but Mimi quickly got her a skewer to put them on, she just didn't cut off the pokey top...

They got some books and some awesome stick puppets also with their Peeps and other goodies... and after having breakfast and a nap for Caroline we headed over to Grandma and Grandpa's for an egg hunt!

First Bike Ride!

This weekend Caroline had her first ride on a big girl bike! Charlotte was not pleased that I said the bike was now Caroline's to use. She has a real tricycle, and a scooter, and every riding toy you can imagine, but once I said Caroline got to use this bike she had a fit. So she compromised and agreed to push her on it. Caroline relaxed and enjoyed the ride!
